Africa Volleyball Championship: Nemostars Off The Mark

One of two Uganda’s Representative at the 2019 Men’s Africa Club Volleyball Championship Nemostars have got off to the perfect start.

Nemostars came from a set down, on two occassions before labouring to a 3-2 win in the opening game of the club continental showdown in Al Ahly Sports Arena, Egypt.

University of Zimbabwe won the opening set 25-23 before Nemo, as locally known bounced back to level matters 14-25 in the second set. Nemo won the forth set 22-25 to force a decider after Zimbabwe side had won the third set 30-28.

Uganda’s national league champions sealed an epic comeback with a 10-15 win in the decider.

Nemo, who faced financial hurdles to reach to Egypt, will return to action on Tuesday against GSU of Kenya before facing Mwangaza (Ivory Coast) on Wednesday.

Thursday is a rest day, and the side will return to action against AS FAG (Guinea) and Asaria (Libya) on Friday and Saturday respectively.

The best two teams from each of the four groups will automatically progress to the knock-out stages, starting from the round of last eight, while the rest will straight head into classification matches.

Group A: Ahly, Injis, Police, Mugher and Ahly Tripoli

Group B: Smouha, Gisagara, Christian, Gendarmarie and Etihad

Group C: Swehly, Rukinzo, Woliata, Prisons, Espoire and FAP

Group D: GSU, University, AS Fag, Mwangaza, Nemostars and Asaria
