City Oilers outclassed KIU Titans to win 67-52 in a National Basketball League encounter played at MTN Indoor Arena in Lugogo.

Oilers got off to a blistering start to lead 22-11 before maintaining the 11 lead at the long break, despite winning the third quarter 19-15, KIU failed to build on that moment before Oilers came out strong in the last quarter (19-11) to seal a deserved victory.

The game, also watched by Silverbacks head coach George Galanopoulos and foreign based player Deng Geu, failed to live as advertised with the Titans partly to blame as they didn’t mount an expected challenge.

Missing their head coach Brian Wathum, who is with the Junior Silverbacks in Rwanda for Zone five U16 Championship, KIU shot an ugly 25% from the field, and managed just 18 points off the bench, hence a loss was inevitable.

Captain Jimmy Enabu led the way with a game high 17 points, Tony Drilleba and Landry Ndikumana contributed 13 points each.

Guard Michael Bwanga (14 pts) was the only Titans player to score double figures. Brian Ssentongo and Oscar Muge scored eight and seven points respectively.

The victory sees Oilers seal a double over KIU Titans as Oilers also won the first round game 83-79 on April 26 at YMCA.

This also ends KIU’s seven game unbeaten streak in the season. Oilers on the other hand, have now won five games in a row since falling to JKL Dolphins (67-66) on May 15.

Oilers return on court on Sunday, June 16 against Falcons as KIU Titans will play Sharing Youth on the same day.
