FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo has claimed that Uganda and the CECAFA region in general will benefit greatly from his new CAF position.
Magogo was recently elected on the CAF Executive committee for the cycle 2017-2021 for the continental body that was formed in 1957.

The soft spoken engineer becomes the first Ugandan in history to achieve the position.
Magogo returned to the country on Monday morning for the first time since his appointment. From Egypt, he connected to Rwanda for the 2019 CECAFA Kagame Cup finals.
“This is our achievement as a whole country and the CECAFA region,” said Magogo about his new CAF seat, while speaking to the press at Entebbe International Airport’s VIP Lounge.
“I am going to use this position and improve on our regional football standards and progress. As Uganda, we have good ideas and when u are a CAF Excom member, you have the opportunity to suggest.
“I will be on the committee to support the (CAF) president in helping to develop football.”
At Entebbe, Magogo was received by FUFA Vice President Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi who also doubles as the Minister of state for youth and Children affairs.
Other FUFA officials Ahmed Hussein, Darius Mugoye, Hamid Juma, Ronnie Kalema, Humphrey Mandu, Esther Musoke, Paul Ssali and Matia Lule among others were present.

“There are challenges in African football, and very many we face as a region but I will do everything in my own means to ensure that African football goes where it belongs,” added Magogo.
“We have to improve CECAFA, I come at a time when we all know that in the long run, qualification to some of the continental events will be done through zones. We must have a strong zone to have a strong saying. We have to have good strong neighbours to have a big say.”
It should be noted that the CECAFA region, for the first time, took four countries – Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania and Burundi – to the recently concluded 2019 AFCON.
However, the regional clubs have failed to make a mark on the continent. Also, the CECAFA competitions have failed to regain lost glory and hype.

He added that the appointment, which was partly due to the recent National team improvement, is a stepping stone to facilitate his 2026 World Cup campaign.
