Vipers coach Edward Golola has asked for a positive approach from his players ahead of their game with Mbarara City FC.

Vipers will on Saturday play host to the Ankole Lions in the first semifinal of the 2019 FUFA Pilsner Super eight at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.

Mbarara City FC are unbeaten against Vipers in their last three meetings, but Golola believes that football has less to do with history.

“Football is not about history, the boys have to approach the game with a positive attitude to get a needed win,” Golola said in a press briefing held on Thursday morning at Kati Kati hotel in Kampala.

“We as coaches have done our part, we have prepared the boys mentally and physically well. And I think if they can implement what we have taught them in the last days, we shall get a good result.

“All the boys are focussed and waiting for tomorrow’s game.”

This will be Golola’s first competitive home game since replacing Michael Nam Ouma at the helm.

Golola was in charge as Vipers ousted Proline FC 1-0 away at Lugogo in the quarter finals thanks to Denis Mwemezi’s strike.

Goals, each from Paul Mucureezi and Brian Ahebwa gave Mbarara a 2-0 win to eliminate Sam Ssimbwa’s URA FC at Kakyeka.

This will be the fifth meeting between the two sides – Vipers have won twice, lost once and two draws.

Clovis Mbayi scored the only goal of the game as Viper beat Mbarara away in Kakyeka in 2017, while a brace from Dan Mzee Sserunkuma was enough as the Venoms claimed a 2-0 at Kitende in 2018

Umar Mihinzi’s late strike on August 29, 2018 gave Mbarara city their only win against Vipers.

Onduparaka FC and KCCA FC are the other two teams in this year’s semifinals.
