Three Tooro United players have been suspended for ‘confronting’ referee Brian Miiro Nsubuga.
Godfrey Lwesibawa, Ibrahim Kayiwa and Paddy Muhumuza are said to have attacked referee Miiro during a matchday two league game between Vipers and Tooro United at St Mary’s Stadium Kitende.
The trio have been suspended for two games – They will miss games against URA (Away – Friday, September 13) and KCCA FC (Home – Tuesday, October 2).
“It was reported in the referee’s match report of Tuesday 3/09/2019 that, Tooro United FC players, Lwesibawa Godfrey, Kayiwa Ibrahim and Muhumuza Paddy confronted the Centre Referee only to be restrained by teammates and the Assistant
Coach,” reads the letter from FUFA Disciplinary Panel, in part.
The panel noted that the three players responded to the charges which aa stipulated in Article 30(5) of the FUFA Competitions Rules is an unsporting conduct.
“Accordingly, the Competitions Disciplinary Panel orders that;
Lwesibawa Godfrey, Kayiwa Ibrahim and Muhumuza Paddy be suspended for two (2) FUFA competition matches.
The players are also warned as to their future conduct.”
In the eventful game on September 2, Miiro sent off Tooro United boss Wasswa Bbosa for losing his temper on the touchline.
Notably, Miiro also gave a second yellow card to Vipers’ Farouk Musisi but the player continued to play before fourth official Ali Sabira reminded the referee that the left back had to march off.
The Venoms, despite being a man down, won the game 1-0 thanks to Fahad Bayo’s late strike.
Tooro United beat Busoga United on matchday one but have lost to Vipers, Wakiso Giants and Maroons FC.
