Warriors managed to hold on to beat KIU Titans 62-55 in game three of the 2019 NBL Playoffs quarter finals played at the YMCA court in Wandegeya.
There were red flags everywhere for Brian Wathum’s KIU who had a good game two to force a decider – including managing just three points against Warriors’ 17 in the first quarter – but managed to bounce back in a game they died fighting.
Stanley Mugerwa hit a double double of 13 points and 14 points, Michael Buzangu scored 13 but struggled to establish authority in the game while Chris Omanye who recovered from an early injury scare made 10 points before fouling out in an intense affair.
Wathum will rue the bluntness of his side on the day as almost everyone fired blanks.
Sudi Ulanga, had a good performance but that cannot be said of his other teammates. Sudi, who also shot a lowly 4-12 from the field, was the only KIU player to score in double figures.
Collins Kasujja was 1-11, Ethienne Kazungu making 3-14 while Michael Bwanga and Denis Balungu were 2-11 and 1-8 from the field respectively.
Elsewhere, UCU Canons managed to fight back and prevented an early scare, before beating and sweeping KCCA Men in a game that was interrupted by a heavy downpour.
David ‘Dikong’ Deng Kongor turned on the heat with 22 points before sealing his double double with 10 rebounds to garner a man of the match performance.
Captain Joas Maheta scored 12 points while the towering Fadhil Chuma cleared the board with 15 rebounds at both ends of the court.
JKL Lady Dolphins also swept a resolute Roger Sserunyigo coached UMU Ravens team with a 61-55 close game two triumph. Hope Akello flourished with a game high 24 points and Rita Imanishimwe added 13 points as the defending Champions completed a semifinal puzzle where they will face KIU Rangers while UCU Lady Canons meet KCCA Leopards again at this stage.
Action continues on Sunday at YMCA with mouthwatering game threes in a winner takes all contest.
