Sam Ssimbwa, Two Others Nominated For Coach Of January

URA FC’s Sam Ssimbwa has been nominated for best coach for the month of January in the Uganda Premier League (UPL) awards.

The short crowning ceremony will be held this Monday, February 2 at Kati Kati Hotel in Kampala.

Abbey Bogere Kikomeko (Busoga United) and Paul Kiwanuka (Bright Stars) are the other coaches to make a final three shortlist.

Ssimbwa stands the favourite for the gong that comes with a cash prize of Sh1M.

In January, Ssimbwa has helped URA to four wins out of the five league games. The tax collectors beat KCCA, Bright Stars, BUL and SC Villa, drawing with Tooro United (A).

He also won this award last season when he was named the best coach of March 2019 (2018/19 season).

Kiwanuka’s Bright Stars has won three of four league games – beating BUL, KCCA and Maroons.

Kikomeko’s Busoga has also won three out of tour games. Beating Villa, Mbarara and Express before a 2-1 away loss to Onduparaka FC.

In the players’ category, URA FC duo Cromwell Rwothomio and Saidi Kyeyune will go head to head against Police FC’s Ben Ocen.

Maroons’ Douglas Bamweyana (Coach) and Vipers’ Fahad Bayo were named the best in September.

Vipers’ then coach Edward Golola and BUL striker Robert Mukongotya clinched October honours.

November’s best coach and player were Mike Mutebi (KCCA) and Steven Mukwala (Maroons) respectively.
