Football in Tanzania resumed on Saturday with two top flight fixtures after three months of suspension but with major Covid19 concern.
Fans that attended the games did not comply with the regulations that were earlier set by Tanzania Football Federation.
“Several fans failed to observe a one metre distance as they were packed closely and some were without face masks,” a report in Tanzania’s Daily News publication said.
The Federation had asked for a limited number of fans to attend games and these would be required to wear masks.
The fans were also to sanitize or wash hands and then seat or stand while observing the social distancing guidelines.
Children and old fans were not allowed to attend games according to the set guidelines.
In the games played, Young Africans edged Mwadui FC 1-0 at Kambarage Stadium in Shinyanga courtesy of Balam Mapinduzi strike.
It was a two-all draw between Coastal Union and Namugo FC in the other game played in the Vodacom Premier League.
Tanzania’s President John Magufuli Pombe last week declared his country coronavirus-free and thanked God for the role.
Despite concerns from the World Health Organization (WHO) over Magufuli’s strategy, the government has also not released any data of Covid19 cases in the recent past.
Tanzania is the country to resume football after Burundi in Africa. Action has also returned in Europe but with strict Covid19 guidelines headlined by games being played behind closed doors.
