Onyango On Why He Takes His Kids To Stadium

Uganda Cranes and Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Denis Onyango has revealed why he takes his children to watch him play in stadiums.

Onyango, married to Barbara Namubiru, has four children and all stay in South Africa.

“Having my kids at the stadium is very important for me as a father and a parent because it inspires me and motivates me knowing that my kids and my family are watching me in the stands,” Onyango told the club website.

“It’s one thing that I believe it teaches our kids how to work hard and it makes our kids become winners because when they see their father on the pitch, giving his best, they learn one or two things from me and they get to understand that sometimes the game is about winning and losing.

“If you give your best as a father on the pitch, it really inspires them and motivates them to love the game and to become better people in the future, which we all want as parents.”

Onyango, in a recent interview with BBC Africa in May, also stated that the lockdown has helped him bond with his family and get to know them better.

Born and bred in Nsambya, Onyango has gone on to become one of the most admired players on the continent.

He was voted the 2016 Best player based in Africa in the CAF Awards.

He has won many accolades, including the CAF Champions league and has captained Uganda Cranes to 2017 and 2019 Africa cup of nations.
