Uganda Premier League side Vipers SC have confirmed their coaching staff for the 2020/21 season.

Paul Kiwanuka and Francis Mugerwa have been added to the backroom staff as assistants to head coach Fred Kajoba.

Kiwanuka joins from Bright Stars while Mugerwa was at relegated Maroons FC.

“I am delighted to have this talented group of coaches alongside me. They bring a great mix of experience and fresh thinking,” Kajoba said as quoted by the club website.

It is said that Kajoba has been strongly involved in recruiting his two assistants.

The duo completes the backroom staff of Goalkeeping Coach Ibrahim Mugisha, Fitness Trainer Edward Ssali, Physical coach Ram Nyakana Mpuga, Gym Instructor Ibrahim Kato and Physiotherapist Mathius Kassagga.

The player recruitment at the home of Champions has seen the addition of Dissan Galiwango (Express FC), Ibrahim Orit (Mbarara City) and Jamil Kalisa (Bright Stars).

Work Cut Out For Backroom Staff

One of the biggest hot seats in the country is the Vipers dugout.

There is more pressure to deliver than being this country’s Vice President, pun intended.

Since 2018, Vipers has changed coaches like clothes; with Portuguese Miguel Da Costa, Mexican Javier Martinez, Kenyan Nam Ouma and Ugandan Edward Golola (twice) have faced the axe.

Club President Lawrence Mulindwa has repeatedly said that there is no investor who will just sit there and do nothing when results are not coming in.

The sacking of Golola who was still on top of the log and Da Costa who was axed two months after winning the league, is a testimony that results are not only enough at Kitende.

Kajoba and his team will be tasked to defend the league title, which is not a big ask, but the club’s major target next season is reaching the lucrative groups of the CAF Champions league.

CECAFA Kagame Cup, Uganda Cup, Pilsner Super 8 are some of the other competitions Vipers will take part in.
