Progress Towards Sports Return As FUFA, Government Meet

There is “progress” towards sports resumption after the meeting between FUFA and Government.

Sports in Uganda has been banned since March 2020 due to Covid19 pandemic.

On Wednesday, FUFA officials President Moses Magogo and Deputy CEO Decolas Kiiza together with State Minister of Sports Hon. Hamson Obua held a meeting with Prime Minister of Uganda Dr Ruhakana Rugunda.

The meeting in Kampala was directed towards the safe return of football and Sports in the Country.

“There was nothing concrete, but what I can tell is that we are progressing,” FUFA Deputy CEO Decolas Kiiza told The-SportsNation.

“We have another followup meeting next week, so, let us wait and see.”

Notably, the Uganda Women U17 team is set to play the World Cup Qualifiers against Cameroon in October, the same month when the Uganda Premier League is expected to Kickoff.

In June, National Council of Sports (NCS) released standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the resumption of sports in Uganda.

High risk sports that involve close contact of participants like Football, Rugby, Basketball, Netball, Boxing, Handball etc may return after the low risk sports (like Golf, Athletics, Cycling, Motor Sports) are given greenlight.
