FUFA has cautioned clubs against poor use of the Covid19 relief funds.
The teams have been warned not use the funds to pay sign-on fees to players.
Sign-on fee/bonus is a sum of money paid to a player by a club as an incentive to join that new club or on renewing his contract.
Many clubs have tabled hefty sign-on fees as means of attracting players to join their clubs.
The Federation has outlined guidelines on how the Covid19 relief funds should be used by the recipients.
Each UPL club will receive Sh32m while Big league teams will pocket Sh15m.
FUFA CEO Edgar Watson confirmed that the process of issuing out funds to the clubs is underway, before revealing the guidelines on the acceptable areas that the COVID-19 Funds should be spent on.
“1. Salaries: Direct payment to salaries of players, coaches, staff and direct football employed staff/persons. ( Sign on fee for Players is not acceptable)
“2. Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs): Costs related to implementation of SOP’s (standard operation Procedures) in case Government lifts the lockdown on football activities.
“3. Payment Method: All transactions to beneficiaries of these funds must be processed from bank to bank using the Club official bank account.
The FUFA CEO, in a document sent to clubs, said that the UPL and Big League clubs that shall be required to submit a report and supporting documents by 30th November 2020, clearly showing how
funds were spent.
He added: “Responsible Club Officials may be summoned during the audit process to clarify on the expenditures made in this regard.
FUFA has also asked clubs to write back for assistance “where there is reasonable doubt as to whether the intended use of these funds is permissible.”
