Wakiso Giants will be without six players as they make a short trip to Lugogo to face Police FC in their league opener.

The injured players include Pius Kaggwa, Tom Masiko, Alex Komakech, Ayub Kisalita and goalkeeper Katende.

The match will be broadcast live on Sanyuka TV at 4pm, behind closed doors.

“We are excited to get on the pitch and do what we love, as far as our preparations, we are ready to unleash the challenges and we have what it takes to compete with anybody in the league,” Wakiso Giants coach Douglas Bamweyana said.

“Anything below fourth place will be a failed target for us.”

The Purple Sharks will seek to get the campaign off to a good start against a team they lost to in both league games last season.

In the first encounter at Lugogo, Police recovered from Viane Ssekajugo goal to win 2-1 courtesy of Ben Ocen and Pius Kaggwa’s strikes.

In the second round, January this year, Ocen put Police in the lead but Geoffrey Sserunkuma leveled matters. Andrew Kigozi scored the winner for Police to win 2-1 in what was Livingston Mbabazi’s first game.

Yasin Mugume and Rahmat Ssenfuka are some of the former Cops now at Wakiso Giants.

Police FC are expected to put up a strong challenge in a season where they recruited impressively.

Experienced midfielder Tony Mawejje, a big addition for Abdallah Mubiru, was made the club captain.

“We have prepared well for the game, it has been a long wait to return on the pitch but we have had enough time together and we are ready to get going,” said Mawejje.

Selection headache awaits Coach Mubiru who also added Duncan Sseninde, Frank Zaga Tumwesigye among other new signings.

Police FC lost their first league game 3-0 go Onduparaka FC by forfeiture after being absent due to East African games, and later lost 2-0 to BUL in the second game of the season.

The club went on to finish 13th, a place above relegation, with 25 points from as many games having won eight, drawn four and lost 13.

Wakiso lost 1-0 to KCCA FC at Lugogo courtesy of Allan Okello’s strike.

The side finished 10th with 30 points, having picked eight wins, six draws and 11 losses.
