Big League, Regional League Kickoff Postponed Again

FUFA has postponed the kickoff for Big and Regional League again!

The FUFA Big League, second tier of Uganda club football hierarchy, was scheduled to kickoff on February 4, 2021.

The league draft fixture was set to be released on January 8, which never came to fruition.

“The Big League and Regional kick-off is postponed until the process of consultation on the management of COVID 19 SOPs in said Leagues is finalised,” FUFA Competitions Director Hajjat Aisha Nalule has said.

Big League kickoff was initially set in October last year before it suffered the first set back.

Nalule had earlier suggested that they will use the Uganda Premier League to gauge how they will go about other competitions like Big League.

The UPL successful retuned and five Match-days were played before a break was taken to allow the National team prepare for CHAN in Cameroon.

The return to competitions has seen teams test players for Covid19 while games are played behind closed doors.

Teams in too flight had been given permission to allow limited fans to access stadiums on FUFA consent.

Luwero United (Buganda Region), Gaddafi (Eastern Region), Terrazo and Tiles (Western Region) and Calvary (West Nile Region) qualified from Regional League to FUFA Big League for the forthcoming season.

Maroons, Tooro United and Proline FC were relegated from UPL to Big League.

The Regional league was set to return on February 14 while Women Super and Elite Leagues were to kickoff on February 13 and 20th respectively.
