Afrobasket: Silverbacks Group E Games Rescheduled

FIBA has finally rescheduled Uganda’s postponed Group E games at the qualifiers of the 2021 FIBA Afrobasket.

FIBA has confirmed in a statement that the games will be played between June 15 and July 15, 2021 at a venue yet to be confirmed.

The Silverbacks participation at the biennial tournament was halted before take-off FIBA discovered five positive COVID-19 cases in the Silverbacks contingent.

This, happened just a few hours to Uganda’s encounter with Egypt.

Consequently, according to the statement from FIBA, Uganda was banished out the tournament bubble with the former stating that all Silverbacks’ games had been postponed to a time yet to be disclosed.

Uganda is grouped against Egypt, Morocco and Cape Verde before hell broke loose.

The Afrobasket championship is due 24 August to 5 September 2021 in Kigali, Rwanda.

In related developments, Guinea’s pending game with Cameroon has been forfeited in favour of the latter “following the non-appearance of Equatorial Guinea in their game against Cameroon on February 19, 2021 due to the late arrival of the delegation of Equatorial Guinea in Yaounde.”
