Sixteen time Uganda Premier League record champions SC Villa have unveiled a new kit.
This was done through their media outlets on Monday, April 26.
The kit which is understood to be their home (kit) is a blue shirt with orange stripes on the shoulders, white shorts and blue socks with an orange stripe at the top.
The Jogoos also changed their logo and the new one looks more like the old (one) save for the ‘Cock’ whose direction has been changed from left to right.
On the same log, the word ‘Uganda’ has been replaced with 1975, the year SC Villa was started.
It is understood that the new kit was supposed to be unveiled months ago but due to the COVID-19 situation, it has taken a while before arriving.
Speaking to the SportsNation, Villa CEO Shawn Mubiru says that the move is one of the ways the club is trying to change its public image.
“We wanted to embrace the heritage of Villa and that is why we did not make many changes to the logo and kit. Mubiru said.
“It is only cock that crawls around after winning game and that is why we had to maintain it.
“It is not just about changing the Jersey and log, we are trying to change the image of the club starting from how it is ran.”
For year’s now, the Villa brand has deteriorated in the community as the club has been less competitive.
About this, Mubiru says the changes are meant to inspire new supporters as well as ensuring the old ones are intact.
“We want to inspire new supporters and also maintain the ones we have.
“As Villa, we also want to ensure we are winning games and fight for titles because that is what we are made of.”
The New Jersey is expected to be used as soon as possible.
Replicas that will be sold to fans have also arrived and with the high demand in the market, many have already started inquiring about them.
Villa returns to action on Tuesday, April 27 at home to BUL FC.
On the UPL standings, the Jogoos currently occupy 8th spot with 30 points from 20 games.
