Nam Blazers and KIU Titans will lock horns as the National Basketball League continues this weekend in Kansanga.
The mouthwatering clash pits together two of the top sides that have already fronted their case to dethrone City Oilers who has won the league seven times on a trot.
A lot needs to be done but Nam Blazers who are playing in the top flight for the very first time have looked impressive partly because of their work in the transfer window.
They sit third on the 10-team log and will fancy their chances against hosts KIU Titans after back to back wins against Falcons and Ndejje last weekend.
“Every game is a final this year unlike others where you had to play a team twice before playoffs,” Nam Blazers guard Chris Omanye told The-SportsNation.
“So we want to go get every win and our quest to get the one of tomorrow! But it will depend on who want it more.”
Omanye will be extra motivated since he will be facing his former pay masters.
He added: “The motivation is that they know me, they see me almost everyday working on my craft. It’s a wonderful opportunity for me to showcase what I have learned from what they see me do every day.”
Side note: Nam Blazers marked Eid Celebrations with a CSR activity that saw the club give back to slams in Namuwongo. Club Official Hajji Farouk Zzinda said: “Many of the households in the Namuwongo slams are struggling to have the basic needs and whenever we can as a team, we provide and interact with these households and interest the kids to embrace sports as it can be a source of good fortune to one of those families in the future. We would like to call upon sports lovers should join hands with us and support different communities just like this one because in the end “Charity doesn’t decrease one’s wealth in anyway, it rather increases the mercy of God upon those who give it.”
The Titans are sixth on the table with two wins from three games – They beat Betway Power in the opener, lost to JKL Dolphins and bounced back with a 85-78 win over UCU Canons.
Their star man Faisal Aden has blown hot and cold but if he decides to play, Nam Blazers may not have the answers for the tricky point guard.
Besides Aden, Titans had Peter Obleng and Michael Bwanga score in doube digits last weekend while Ariel Okall, Stanley Okall and Denis Balungu were unstoppable inside the paint.
Oscar Muge is still sidelined with a finger injury but new signing Ahmed Kassa (former Kampala University) is in contention.
