Six, including a club official, have received bans from Confederation of African Football (CAF) disciplinary committee.
The suspensions were announced on Wednesday evening by CAF media team.
ASC Jaraaf FC trio of Youssou Dial (Official) and two players Mamadou Sylla and Albert Diene are among the suspended – They assaulted match officials in the club’s CAF Confederation Cup quarterfinal match against Cameroon’s Cotton Sport on May 23.
CAF said: “After the final whistle, officials of the club, led by Mr Dial and some players including Albert Diene and Mamadou Sylla charged towards the match officials and physically and verbally assaulted them on the field. The referee was seriously wounded with head injuries.”
Youssou has been suspended from all football related activities for two years while the two players for the next six CAF matches while the club will pay 50,000 dollars for ‘aggressive behavior’.
Similarly, CAF has also banned two MC Alger players for a year for assaulting referee in a CAF Champions League fixture against Morocco’s Wydad Casablanca.
CAF said: “MC Alger players players; Abdelnour Belkheir and Ahmed Boutagga physically attacked the referee by kicking him in the leg.”
The two players have been suspended for a year and are suspended from all CAF competitions with the club and National teams. 25000 dollars will be paid by the club as a fine.
Taha Yassine Khenisse of Esperance de Tunis has also been suspended for a period of twelve months for violating anti-doping rules.
CAF said: “Taha Yassine Khenissi had tested positive for a WADA prohibited substance during the Total CAF Champions League between MC Alger and Esperance of Tunisia on 10 May 2021.”
