SC Villa Presidential hopeful Joseph Kizito has officially withdrawn from the intensely and passionately contested altercation leaving a two-horse race as VEC prepares for the vetting process.
This he communicated in the later hours of Thursday 12th August through a letter dedicated to the entire SC Villa fraternity and used the opportunity to thank the people that endorsed his candidature.
“Following a series of consultations with different stakeholders, I hereby inform my supporters and the entire Villa fraternity of my immediate withdrawal from the presidential race.” Kizito confirmed.
He would further highlight his intentions to back the Busiro-East Member of Parliament Medard Lubega Sseggona and expounded on the fact that an agreement for him to rally behind the legislator was done and dusted.
The outgoing head of communications at the club also warned that the two were in negotiations and a position for him to serve at senior capacity in the Sseggona team would be subsequently revealed in the foreseeable future.
He leaves the fight against the legislator to Dennis Mbidde Ssebugwawo, whose possibility to make it out of the vetting process is still uncertain following reports of financial constraints characterizing the renown marketing guru.
It was yesterday when a piece speaking volumes about the issue ran on the SportsNation website with a caption indicating Kizito’s struggles to form an executive committee and how his withdrawal was a matter of when and not if. This was indeed vindicated.
The conclusion was that the Villa electorate were to be set for a sole candidate come polling day on August 28th. Mbidde’s staggering financial challenges, also being a strong determinant in this much anticipated outcome.
This was however dismissed by the club CEO Shawn Mubiru while on the #BeyondTheGame sports show on 104.1 Power FM the previous evening. This is what he had to say:
“The talk of Mbidde failing to come up with the necessary funds to support his candidature is merely a rumour and not factual so treat it with the contempt it deserves. VEC is yet to receive any withdrawal requests from the said candidate and as far as we are concerned, vetting will happen before the end of the week with him taking part.”
Former Villa President engineer Ben Misagga had earlier weighed in on the candidates and went ahead to endorse Medard for his uniqueness and the river of expectations around the club that his presence in the race creates.
It is also imperative to remember that Misagga’s reign at the club agonizingly came to an end in 2018 and was succeeded by an interim committee led by William Nkemba, whose tenure has extended to this present day.
Kizito might have pledged his unwavering commitment to the SC Villa renaissance but surrendering his allegiances and support to Sseggona makes the latter an overwhelming favorite to clown this much desirable position at the record 16-time Uganda Premier League champions.
