Uganda’s representatives at the inaugural CAF Women Champions CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers Lady Doves registered a 2-1 victory against Simba Queens to clinch bronze.
In the final, Kenya’s Vihiga Queens beat Ethiopia’s CBE 2-1 to qualify for the inaugural CAF Champions League.
The two sides were meeting in a third place play offs game in this year’s tournament.
It was the second meeting between the two in this year’s championship. They had met earlier on in a group A encounter that ended goalless.
At their first attempt to reach the inaugural CAF Women Champions league, Lady Doves’ journey was ended on semi finals by Ethiopian side Commercial Bank of Ethiopia. They were beaten 5-3 on penalties.
For Simba Queens, they lost to Kenyan side Vihiga Queens by 2-1 on the semi final stage.
And now for the Believers, all they could play for was a third place play offs game to take home something and they did just enough in a game that saw limited chances for both sides.
Winger Spencer Nakacwa put the Masindi based side ahead in the 22nd minute before forward Fazila Ikwaput doubled the lead in the 83rd minute.
Later on, in the dying minutes, Midfielder Asha Djafari scored what seemed to be a consolation for Simba Queens as it wasn’t enough to change the result.
Victory meant that the Believers went home with bronze medals and a package of USD 10,000 dollars for finishing in the third position.
Sharpshooter Fazila Ikwaput finished with five goals on her name while Captain Daisy Nakaziro finished the tournament with three clean sheets in five games played.
Vihiga Queens will face off against CBE in the finals on Thursday evening and the eventual champion will book a ticket in the inaugural CAF Women Champions league slated in Egypt later this year.
