Baseball Championship Underway In Nakirebe

National Council of Sports (NCS) President Dr. Donald Rukare who also doubles as the Uganda Olympic Committee President was the guest of honour as the All Stars Baseball Championship kicked off on Sunday in Nakirebe.

The Championship that will take 15 days of action, will see Uganda Baseball and Softball Association select a National team to represent Uganda at the World Cup Qualifiers.

Dr Rukare applauded the Federation for the early preparations and promised to give them the support needed.

“Baseball will be among the Sports disciplines at 2028 Olympic games in America. I have seen the young boys and girls with talent and I am so proud of the Federation for what they are doing,” Rukare stated.

“As National Council of Sports, we will give them all the support needed to pursue their dreams of representing Uganda at the Olympic games as well as the world championships ahead of them.”

Uganda Baseball and Softball Federation president Felix Okwiye believes that with these kind of tournaments, they will definately tap Uganda’s cream.

“We have started preparations early enough and this will help us get the best players from all parts of the country to the national team,” Okwiye stated.

“Over 90 players will spend the 15 days at Nakirebe competing and the best will be selected on merit.”

Among the clubs that will be tussling it out include Kyoga, Silverbucks, Nile, Elgon, Karuma to mention but a few.
