A new-look Namuwongo Blazers side managed to beat Falcons at the 2021 Power Invitational tournament on Saturday.

This was Blazers first game for a tournament that tipped off last Saturdat at YMCA court in Wandegeya.

New signings Amisi Saidi led the way with a 23-point and 12-rebound double double while Collins Kasujja contributed 20 points.

Joseph Ikong also marked his debut and filled the stat sheets with 12 points, 6 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals.

“It is exciting to play again, especially competitively given that the pandemic had taken away all this,” stated Ikong who played for City Oilers last season after his move from Betway Power.

“Namuwongo is a great team with good people and its always good to play with young people and inspire them.”

When asked if his stay in Namuwongo Blazers is permanent or temporarily for the tournament, the small forward said: “That is a top management discussion.”

It was a closely contested affair in the opening exchanges that saw Falcons lead 25-20 after the 1st quarter but Blazers were level at 44:44 at the long break.

It remained tight, 63-all going into the last quarter where Namuwongo’s quality proved too hot for Falcons to handle before they deservedly took an 18-point game.

The player of the game was former Warriors big man Amisi Sayid who was gifted a Bluetooth speaker.

In the other game played, UPDF Tomahawks had a come back in their second game of the tournament.The side beat Takan Lokeris in a heated game highlighted by a couple of Technical calls.

Okello Henry who was the player of the game excited the audience with 3 consecutive 3 points that gave the Tomahawks a 9 point lead against Takan Lokeris. He was given a Bluetooth speaker for being man of the game.

The Vice Captain Odoma Ferdinand stated, “We went so hard today. The UCU game enabled us recognize our weaknesses that we worked on. The win means a lot as we were going to go for the early holiday but us winning means that we are still in the chase.”
