Mbarara City Petitions FUFA Over KCCA Use of ‘Ineligible’ Player

Uganda Premier League side Mbarara City have petitioned FUFA claiming that KCCA FC fielded an ineligible player during their game on Wednesday.

The said player is right back Filbert Obenchan, who came on in the 80th minute of the game for John Revita on his return at the Club as they picked a 1-0 win over the Ankole Lions.

Barely a day after their game, Mbarara City have written to the authorities expressing their discontent about the matter.

On Wednesday this week, KCCA FC confirmed the return of Obenchan as the first signing in the January transfer window on a three and a half year’s contract and this was made official on the club’s website.

The following day, the KCCA academy graduate featured in the last 10 minutes of the game as they picked maximum points against the Ankole Lions.

The Ankole Lions says that KCCA did not follow right procedure that is allowed when using any new player at any UPL club.

The Petition reads in part:

“The mid Season transfer window officially opened on Saturday 1st January, 2022 at 12:00am hence Registration of players started to take place. Pursuant to article 7 section 10 of the status and transfer of players, it clearly defines how registered league players can feature for their respective club after registration. It states “a player is only eligible to take part in football competition if there is at least five (5) days between the date of receipt of registration form by FUFA and the day of a match, unless the license is issued earlier.

Mbarara City says that KCCA FC didn’t allow the requested five days to elapse before using Obenchan in their league game.

“We thus seek your intervention in this matter as we believe that Obenchan was ineligible to feature in the KCCA Vs Mbarara City FC league match before his registration formalised.”

KCCA FC, UPL and FUFA are yet to respond about the matter by press time.

Victory on Wednesday saw KCCA move back to the top on 31 points and are now two points above second placed Vipers SC after 13 games so far.
