A star-studded Aziz Damani side eased past Ceylon Lions by 97 runs to win the Uganda Cricket Association Super Cup on Saturday at Lugogo.
The match was a curtain raiser for the new 50-over league season that bowls off on Sunday for the first time since 2019.
It pitted together the 2019 Division One Winner Damani and Division II champion Ceylon Lions, and the difference in quality clearly showed on the day.
A quick unbeaten 62-run off 30 balls tally from Kenneth Waiswa inspired Damani to a lofty 191 after the side had elected to bat first on winning the toss.
Waiswa, who was named player of the match, was unstoppable with nine boundaries that had five sixes as the right handed batsman took on Ceylon Lions attack with utter ruthlessness.
Opener Simon Sesazi scored a blistering 41 before he was caught by Ivan Baidhu while Riazat Ali Shah and Roger Mukasa added 32 and 35 runs respectively in a winning effort.
In response, Junaid Khan got a big wicket of Shazad Kamal who had hit 26, to leave Ceylon Lions choking in the chase and reeling at 64/4 in the 14th over.
And the Division Two newcomers never recovered thanks to two wickets from Henry Ssenyondo (2-9) and one apiece from Frank Nsubuga, Junaid Khan and Riazat Ali Shah.
The Men’s 50 Over Division One League bowls off on Sunday with Wanderers facing SKLPS in Entebbe while Nyakasura and Damani Development II meet at Lugogo in second division match.
Aziz Damani will open their campaign against Kutchi Tigers on February 27 at Lugogo the same day Ceylon Lions will be looking for a perfect start when they welcome ACC in Entebbe.
On Saturday, the winners of 2019 were crowned champions with Div I Men Champions Damani banking Sh5m while runners up Challengers took home Sh3m.
Ceylon Lions got Sh3m for winning the 2019 Division II and runners up Wanderers got sh2m.
