Netball: She Cranes Receive Boost Ahead of Commonwealth

Uganda’s National Netball team, The She Cranes, has acquired a sponsorship package from Multichoice’s GOtv Uganda ahead of the team’s Commonwealth games in Birmingham.

The two parties have agreed a period of two years, with a tune of Sh81.6M as a initial package which is to cater for She Cranes designated program of 2022 only.

The deal covers training kits, jerseys, some tickets to commonwealth games in Birmingham later this year and support in publicity with Gotv Marketing Arm.

It’s a huge package for She Cranes as they prepare for the Australian Netball Championship, US Open Netball Championship, SHE cranes regional tours, Scotland Friendly Game, Fast 5 tournament (New Zealand) and the World Cup 2023.

Uganda Netball Federation President, Ms Sarah Babirye Kityo, couldn’t hide and branded the deal a ‘dream come true.’

“I am very excited for such a blessed wonderful day god has made for us as Uganda netball federation, you know we didn’t have any sponsor, so Gotv coming on board as our first sponsor it’s a great opportunity, and we are super excited,” said Babirye.

“I thank Gotv for trusting us with such a big chance, I am taking it as a test and we are going to show them that we are capable, we are going to make sure that we promote them, love them and that they are part of us, because that what they have become.

“This sponsorship is beyond just helping she cranes only, its going to help every Ugandan child playing netball out there,
according to what we agreed with gotv they are trying to give back to Ugandan they are trying naturing talents of local girls and boy, making the game grow so fast that’s by the taking it from kampala to other regions, and our program is to take our national teams of both girls and boys to every region and by doing that we are identifying talents from all ages because in those regional visits we be allowing all the under teams to play and the technical team will be looking for who is capable of doing what.

Babirye also applauded the just created marketing department in Federation’s new amended constitution for doing a great job of attracting Gotv on board.

“For so many years we did have an independent marketing departed in our constitution , we have just created in just the amendments we have made, and this was kind of a trial, and these are the result, I want to thank the department, they have written to so many companys , and so many are promising, but us having this result this early in less than a year, I tnink they have done a great job and I want to thank them.”

On behalf of Gotv Uganda, Joan Ssemanda Kizza who is the Public Relations and Communication manager Multichoice Uganda, has revealed why they chose She Cranes.

“We chose She cranes because its an easy team to choose, and when we are looking at their performance which we have been tracking down for a while, it shows that it’s the easily outstanding team out of the sport that we see in Uganda, as Ugandans my hope is that we all we know what the performance is, but they are number one in the region, number two in Africa, and six in the world, and we think that this is just a small sponsorship to go far and help them where they are already doing excellent.

“We have variety of sports that we make available for our customer best to watch on our Gotv channels , But that sports comes outside from Uganda, and yet we have excelling teams in the country,we have the opportunity to show the world what for example the She cranes are doing and this a great opportunity to do it as Gotv, and that’s we are working towards starting broadcast some games.”

“We are looking at a time frame of 2 years, but we are going to first focus on common wealth games, and next year we will have a discussion to renew cost as we are aware that the team will need our support.”

“The She Cranes team and their management have let us know that in preparation for Common wealthy games, they are going to have regional tours and under a number of games, they will be kitted in the new uniform u have just seen.”

Uganda alongside South Africa and Malawi, will be the Africa countries to feature in Netball in commonwealth games scheduled for July 28th, to 8th August in Birmingham, England
