Commonwealth: She Cranes Learn Opponents

Uganda National Netball team, the She cranes, has learnt its fate at the forthcoming 2022 Commonwealth games.

In the games slated to begin on July 28th- August 8th in Birmingham England, with netball beginning on 29th, the She Cranes is pitted in Group B in a two-group tournament.

In the two groups of six team each, the She Cranes are pitted alongside Commonwealth defending Champions the England Roses who are also ranked numbers 3 in the world together with world number 2 the Silver ferns of New Zealand who are also Netball world Cup champions and two times commonwealth gold medalist.

Other She Cranes opponents include the world number 7 Malawi Frames, number 10 the Calypso girls of Trindad & Tobago and number 11 the Warriors of Northern Ireland.

Group A has world number one Australia, Africa’s number one south Africa, world number four the Sunshine girls of Jamaica, Scotland, Wales and Bajan Gems of Barbados.

The She Cranes will open its campaign on Saturday July 30th against New Zealand, then on Sunday 31st against Trindad and Tobago, will get back in action on Tuesday against England, before Northern Ireland and Malawi on Wednesday and Thursday respectively.

The top two team from each group will qualify to Semifinals on Saturday 6th before medal matches on Sunday 7th, the rest of the teams will be subjected to classification matches on Friday 5th, depending on how they would have performed in group stages.

The netball as sport made its debut in commonwealth games in 1998 games in Kaula Lumpur Malaysia.

The She Cranes return to this stage after making their debut in 2018 Gold Coast Australia.

Australia (3), New Zealand (2) and England (1) are the only teams to have won this competition.
