SC Villa managed to overcome old rivals Express FC to take Kampala derby bragging rights in a league game at Wankulukuku.

The Jogoos won 2-0 thanks to two quick fire goals from Ivan Sserubiri and Charles Baale at a water-logged pitch.

Sserubiri converted a beautiful freekick into the top corner to draw wild celebrations from the Villa faithfuls few minutes into the second half.

And SC Villa doubled their lead through Baale who scored in an unguarded net after Express goalkeeper Denis Otim slipped in his pursuit to meet a long ball into his area.

It’s a harsh result on Express who were the better side on the day in terms of possession and most chances created.

But the Red Eagles failed to make the ball cross the line, especially Allan Kayiwa who missed two glorious chances.

The Jogoos move to seven points from three games while Express remain on four.

SC Villa Continue To Impress

SC Villa look a shadow of themselves from a team that struggled to grind out results last season.

With a rookie coach in Jackson Magera after the departure of Petros Koukouras, it promised to be another tough spell for the Jogoos.

And it was made worse with a poor transfer business that was highlighted with quantity over quality as they brought in 20 new players.

Two wins and an away draw against Onduparaka makes a good report card.

And a 2-0 victory against Express, their bitter rival, is one that is surely going to shape their season.

This team is not yet there, a work in progress, but who cares when results like these are coming in.

Express Rue Missed Chances

Express will feel they could have walked away with at least a point, in a game they looked the better side.

Ivan Mayanja made the first attempt when he fired from a tight angle, but goalkeeper Martin Elungat was equal to the effort.

Their best chances arrived at half an hour mark when Kenneth Ssemakula, making a return to Villa lineup, failed to block a long clearance from Daniel Shabena for Allan Kayiwa to go free on goal.

But Kayiwa, with a keeper to beat, failed to lift it over Elungat.

Elungat was a suspect, and he spilled an effort from Joseph Akandwanaho but Davis Ssekajja was in right time and right place to make a good clearance.

Kayiwa had another chance to score when after beating his marker, only to be denied by Elungat.

And after Villa went two up, Kayiwa skewed his header wide from close range after a good delivery from Joseph Dhata.

The Red Eagles, lacked enough support from their usual crowd, after many remained outside the gate due to what they called higher entry fees (Ordinary Sh20,000).

What next – SC Villa return to action away to BUL on October 21 at Njeru while Express host Gaddafi next on October 18.
