Sport-S and Tigers will have the opportunity this weekend to turn the Nsambya derby into one of the most awaited encounters in Ugandan volleyball if both teams display great attitudes in the game.
This is an important game for both clubs, as Sport-S has a comfortable lead at the top, but also could give the Tigers a huge lift from the bottom third of the table.
Tigers had a slow start to the season, but they did man up along the way to restart their form with a win against KCCA, though are currently ninth in the table 13 points behind the leaders Sport-S.
It is still hard to digest that Tigers will be a match to their elders, given the all-win form the latter have put up since the start of the season, battering all the big boys and some small names along the way.
If Tigers do beat Sport-S, they could close the gap to ten points and probably will have reason to believe they can skip relegation, in their debut season.
Sport-S have managed to maintain their consistency and form since the start and are currently three points ahead of KAVC. The blacks boost off a very strong team and will be confident of winning against the Tigers and also winning the first Serie A title in more than a decade.
This could be a very tricky fixture and anything could happen as the Tigers will want to prove their birth into the serie with the Nsambya derby, thus making the game bound to be both entertaining and exciting.
As Sport-S Head Coach Benon Mugisha anticipates a much easier contest on Saturday, Hangi Umar a player with the Tigers says a surprise awaits the tactician.
“Many people think there won’t be strong resistance from tigers since all teams come from the same camp, but they will be surprised. We all have a professional mindset, and this is a national league. All of us are after winning the game.” Hangi said.
Sport-S will play without sensational attacker Michael Mangon, and Johnson Rukundo, who is yet to fully recover from an injury that he sustained last season.
Before it dawns on Saturday, a win-less Kampala Capital City Authority will face the Uganda Christian University doves at the Old Kampala Arena, in a 4 pm thriller that will either be a breaking point or a turning point for their season.
“We have corrected our mistakes and areas of weakness. Since our point ratio is so low, we want to scoop all the three points against team KCCA.” Vincent Odeke UCU captain said.
With five games left until the end of round one, KCCA will need to pick maximum points in all their next fixtures if they are to get any closer to the gist of the contest.
Among the five games is UCU who they play today -Saturday-, Sport-S lined up next weekend, as Sky, KAVC, and Nkumba follow suit.
In the Women’s top flight, National Club Champions Orange Block Busters take on KCCA at noon, in-form side Sport-S play against KCB-Nkumba, who picked up their first win from the previous fixture against Vision Volleyball Club.
