Official: Sadio Mane Ruled Out Of World Cup

Senegal Football Association has confirmed that Striker Sadio Mane will not take part in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Mane was included in the 26-man squad to Qatar by Senegal coach Alliou Cisse despite his tournament participation being thrown in doubt after picking an injury.

He got an injury in a Bundesliga clash as Bayern Munich beat Werder Bremen 6-1 last week.

“Fhe FSF wishes a speedy recovery to its player Sadio Mane, package for the World Cup,” reads a short statement from Senegal FA.

Senegal is now sure that the former Liverpool forward cannot recover in time for the World showpiece that get underway this Sunday.

Mane has undergone surgery on the knee, and may play a part for Bayern Munich next year this season.

Its a big blow for Senegal who are pitted in Group A alongside hosts Qatar, Netherlands and Equador.

Senegal will have to call up another player to fill the void, but for now, the scoring burden will shift to Boulaye Dia (Salernitana), Famara Diedhiou (Alanyaspor), Bamba Dieng (Marseille), Nicolas Jackson (Villarreal), Iliman Ndiaye (Sheffield United) and Ismaila Sarr (Watford).
