Sharon Kirabo (KIU Rangers)

The Technical team of the Gazelles (National Women Basketball team) has trimmed the squad to 18 players as they continue preparations for the upcoming Zone Five Championship.

Ten players have been cut off from the initial 28-player squad just three days since the team started training at Lugogo under new Spanish coach Alberto Antuna.

Sharon Kirabo is among the dropped despite having a good season with KIU Rangers that saw her average 10.6 points and 9.3 rebounds last campaign.

Her KIU Rangers teammate Fildauce Namuleme is among the dropped.

The list also has Winfred Akello (Miracle), Becky Longom (KCCA), Shilla Lamunu (Magic Stormers), Shadiah Mbwali (Nkumba Marines), Azidah Nabayunga (UCU), Margaret Bagala (Kampala University), Faridah Kadondi (Kampala University) and Sylvia Nantongo (St Mary’s Kitende).

Two players – Captain Flavia ‘Flirsh’ Oketcho (JKL) and Maureen Omoding (JT Lady Jaguars) – have not yet reported to training because they are not in the country yet.
