Mucureezi Stars As Kitara Move Closer to UPL

Paul Mucureezi scored a double as Kitara FC moved closer to UPL Promotion after a five star performance over relegation threatened Soroti City at Kigaaya playground in the FUFA Big League.

George Ssenkaaba, Edison Agondeze and Paddy Muhumuza scored the other three as the Royals put five past Soroti City whose only goal was scored by Daniel Opio.

With two games to the end of the season, Kitara FC are one point clear at the summit on 55 points while second placed Mbarara City are on 54.

NEC who lost to Lugazi FC sits third with 51 points while Police FC closes the gap to just one with 50 in the fourth position.

Sam Simbwa’s coached side who are five points above 4th placed Police FC, will seal their promotion to the top flight once they avoid a defeat at Adjumani Town Council in their next match.

For Soroti City, they are getting more closer to relegation and they need to win all the remaining two matches to survive.

Kitara FC were dominant in the opening exchanges of the game and were unlucky not to take an early lead.

Moses Sseruyidde, Kisakye John and Ssenkaba all came close to finding the opener.

And their dominance finally paid off at the half hour mark when Mucureezi curled in a freekick to give the hosts the lead.

With three minutes into the added minutes of first half, the visitors restored parity through Opio.

In the Second half, the hosts ran riot with two quick fire goals in the space of four minutes after nine minutes of restart.

Mucureezi restored the Royals lead in the 51st minute to bag his brace.

And four minutes later Ssenkaaba headed home from Sseruyidde’s corner kick to stretch a two-goal lead.

In the last three minutes of the game, Kitara FC found the net twice to kill off the game completely.

Agondeze got his name on the scoresheet in the 87th minute before he turned provider for Muhumuza in the 90th minute to score the fifth goal for the hosts.

Kitara’s 15th win of the season in 28 matches puts them top of the log with 55 points while Soroti City registers their 17th defeat after 28 matches in the 14th place with 37 points.

FUFA Big League returns on Thursday May 11th – Kitara FC will take on Adjumani Town Council at Paridi Playground while Soroti City will host Luweero United at Soroti Stadium.
