Proscovia Alako followed her record knock of 198 with another impressive performance as Masaka SS beat Jinja SS by 71 runs on Wednesday.

The game was a deciding match of who tops Group B and Masaka proved too good for their opponents. Led by Alako, Yusuf Nanga’s side set 137/4 for Jinja SS to chase which chase wasn’t successful.

The Victoria Pearls opener led from both corners as she guided her team to their fourth victory. Not only did she hit 98 runs, she was also key with the ball as she picked 3 wickets, the most by any player.

Jinja SS top batters didn’t come to the party, with Hope Mbeiza managing just a solitary run.

“We were too casual, the best team won,” Habib Mugalula, Jinja SS head coach said. “We dropped Alako over four times. Our fielding was horrible, our batting was terrible, we were simply not good today.”

It is Jinja SS’ first loss of the tournament and it is one that drops them to the second position in Group B.

They are likely to face Ndejje SS in the quarter-finals that start tomorrow. As Group leaders, Masaka will likely face Iganga SS.

In Group A, Olila won by 10 wickets against Mt. Rwenzori and they stay top with maximum points. Jimia Muhammad scored 19 off 10 from that game. While Immaculate Nandera picked 4 wickets. Sarah Atim had three.

Group B runners up Light SS beat Iganga SS by 55 runs. Patricia Timong scored 39 off 47 and picked 3 wickets. Patricia Apolot also picked 3 as well as Ndejje’s Cissy Asege.

St Mary’s Madera, the hosts of this tournament won their first ever cricket week game. They beat Lords Meade by 7 wickets to earn that feat. Lords Meade remain the only team in the competition yet to taste victory.

The final group games will be played tomorrow in the morning and Masaka will face Kilembe SS. Olila will take on St. John’s while Ndejje and St. Mary’s will play Iganga and Victoria High School respectively.
