Rogers Mato scored four goals as KCCA thrashed Bright Stars in the last match of the Startimes Uganda Premier League 2022/2023 season at the MTN Omondi Stadium.

Charles Lwanga was also on target to give Jackson Mayanja a winning end to his interim management spell with a convincing 5-0 win.

The victory was not enough for KCCA to lift their first title since 2019 after Vipers ran riot over Busoga United to retain the crown on a day SC Villa slipped against URA.

The Kasasiro Boys last won the league title in 2018/2019 campaign after Sadam Juma cancelled out Anwar Ntege opener for Ndejje University at the Arena of Visions to move five points clear at the summit.

Bright Stars held KCCA to a goalless draw in the first half as the hosts pressed for a much needed goal.

In the second half, Mato broke the deadlock, tapping home freely at the far post from a Julius Poloto pass two minutes into the second half.

Lwanga doubled the host’s lead after he twisted and turned the defenders to send the Goalkeeper the wrong way in the 54th minute.

Six minutes later, Mato finished off his brace to end the visitors hopes of a come back.

In the 88th minute, Mato completed his hatrick with a long range strike outside the box.

In the 93rd minute, Mato made it a quadruple from the spot after a foul on Poloto in the area.

KCCA finished the season second with 53 points while Bright Stars settled for 9th with 35 points.
