CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers: Kampala Queens Learn Opponents

Group A – Kampala Queens (Uganda), F.A.D (Djibouti), Buja Queens (Burundi), Yei Joint Stars (South Sudan)

Group B – JKT Queens (Tanzania), Vihiga Queens (Kenya), AS Kigali (Rwanda), New Generation (Zanzibar)

FUFA Women Super League Champions Kampala Queens have learnt their group opponents for the CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers for this year’s CAF Women’s Champions League.

Kampala Queens have been pitted in Group A after draws conducted on Wednesday at the CAF Headquarters in Cairo, Egypt.

Experienced Ethiopian side Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE), F.A.D from Djibouti, Buja Queens of Burundi and Yei Joint Stars from South Sudan are the other teams in Group A.

“All I can say is that the draws are fair, we are coming to this tournament targeting to win it, and if you are to be the Champions, you have to beat anyone,” said Kampala Queens assistant coach Tonny Mawejje.

“We are prepared enough to face each and everyone in our group.”

Group B has Tanzania’s JKT Queens, Vihiga Queens from Kenya, AS Kigali from Rwanda and New Generation from Zanzibar.

Uganda will host the regional Qualifiers due August 13-30 with Lugogo and FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru confirmed as the two venues that will host the games.

Top two teams from each group are expected to reach the Semifinals while the overall champions will qualify for the Women’s Africa Champions League that will take place in Ivory Coast in November.

“We are lucky that we are the hosts but that doesn’t give us the mandate that we are to beat anyone, we just have to prepare and fulfill our goal,” added Mawejje.

“We give CBE the respect because they are more experienced as they have been in the previous tournament, but our target is to be champions.”

It’s strong to note that this will be the third CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers, with both Lady Doves and She Corporate falling short in previous editions.
