JW Uganda Golf Open: Nsubuga Leads the Way as Amateurs Shine

Godfrey Nsubuga lived up to his pre-tournament favorite status, securing the top spot on the leaderboard after the first day of the Johnnie Walker Uganda Golf Amateurs Open.

Nsubuga posted an impressive score of 65 gross on Wednesday at the Uganda Golf Club in Kitante.

The Amateurs category has drawn 160 golfers from Burundi, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Senegal, and Uganda for a four-day competition.

Ibrahim Bagalana closely followed in second place with a score of 70 gross, while Peter Tumusiime secured third place with a score of 72 gross.

Nsubuga’s exceptional form, evident since the practice rounds, solidified his status as a strong contender for the coveted amateur championship.

“I am keeping calm; I’ve never won the Uganda Open, but I hope that can change this time around. I am focused on the top prize,” Nsubuga expressed.

During the tee-off, Johnnie Walker Uganda Brand Manager Christine Kyokunda exuded optimism for the Day One results.

“Today is a challenging day for the golfers, and winning the Amateurs Open is a prestigious achievement. As Johnnie Walker, we’re here to support all participants from the tee-off to the 19th hole,” Christine remarked.

“Most importantly, as Johnnie Walker, we look forward to hosting everyone at the Hospitality Village for the Big Flavour experience. It’s perfect for celebrating a successful day on the greens and providing solace for those who had a tough day on the course.”

The Amateurs Open will conclude on Saturday with the crowning of the champion at a Johnnie Walker-themed Prize Giving ceremony.
