Raphael Dwamena: Ghanaian Striker Collapses, Dies On Pitch

Ghanaian footballer, Raphael Dwamena, collapsed and died on Saturday, November 11 in the Albanian top division match between Dwamena’s team KF Egnatia and Partizani.

In the 24th minute of the game, the player suddenly lost his consciousness, falling to the ground.

Players from both teams rushed to his side before he was then attended to by medical personnel as an ambulance was brought onto the pitch, but his life couldn’t be saved.

Dwamena, who was 28 at the time of his demise had been battling a heart disease for while now.

He had also previously collapsed in October 2021 during a match between his then team Blau-Weiß Linz and Hartberg in the Austrian Cup, but recovered and returned to action.

The football fraternity is mourning the striker’s death;

“On behalf of Levante, we would like to express our sincere condolences for the death of our former player, Raphael Dwamena,” the club said in a statement.

“Our thoughts are with the family of Raphael Dwamena at this difficult time,” the Ghana Football Association (GFA) expressed in sorrow.

“Raphael represented Ghana wholeheartedly and paid his dues to the country until his unfortunate passing.”

“We will forever miss him for his dedication to the National Coarse.”

“Rest In Peace Raphael!🙏🏾🕊️”

During his career, Raphael Dwamena who started out at Red Bull Salzburg, later played for teams such as FC Zurich, Levante, and Real Zaragoza.
