Preview: Bright Stars Aim to Bounce Back Against UPDF

Bright Stars are determined to bounce back when they host UPDF, after a recent 3-0 defeat to KCCA ended their five-game unbeaten streak, consisting of two wins and three draws.

Currently positioned in 11th place, Bright Stars are just two points ahead of relegation-threatened UPDF, who are sitting in 15th place, with a mere three places separating the two teams in the tightly contested bottom half of the standings.

A victory for Bright Stars in their upcoming 12th game could potentially propel them into the top half of the table, possibly securing an 8th position, particularly if Gaddafi and Express stumble in their respective matches before Christmas.

Despite a previous loss to Vipers (2-0) two months ago and an opening defeat to BUL (1-0) this season, Bright Stars have remained unbeaten at home since then. Last season’s fixture against UPDF resulted in a 1-1 draw, with Abasi Kyeyune’s goal equalizing Emmanuel Loki’s opener.

Notably, Bright Stars’ last home loss to UPDF was in February 2016, a 0-1 defeat at the Champions Stadium in Mwererwe.

On the other hand, UPDF is eager to break their four-match winless streak since their victory over BUL on the 9th of last month. Their recent performances include losses to Arua (2-1), Vipers (0-1), Gaddafi (2-1), and a draw against Mbarara City (1-1) twelve days ago.

With only one away win – a 0-2 victory against Busoga on matchday six – UPDF heads into their 12th match, positioned 15th on the table with nine points, having secured only two wins so far this season.
