Vipers: Moses Waiswa ‘Happy Again After Returning Home’

Silky attacking midfielder Moses Waiswa is so happy to be back at Kitende, where his Uganda Premier League (UPL) story started with Vipers SC.

After nearly five years away, The UPL defending Champions announced the return of their widely adored player, another one of Kitende’s finest and fans’ favorites.

The Uganda Cranes midfielder mutually parted ways with KCCA after one and half seasons at Lugogo, with five more months left on his two-year contract.

Waiswa instead opted to recommit his future to Vipers until atleast 2026 after signing a two-year deal with the Kitende based side, which he had left in the 2018/19 season for South Africa’s SuperSport United.

“I’m very happy to be back here,” Waiswa said after being unveiled by the Venoms at Kitende on Tuesday, January 16.

“Vipers has always been home, it’s where I made my UPL debut, I can’t wait to get started,” the player added.

At Kitende, Waiswa will be battling for a place in the Vipers midfield, with other fine players like Karim Watambala, Bright Anukani, Allan Okello, Abubakar Lawal, David Bagoole, Abubakali Walusimbi, among others.

Vipers, currently sitting second on the 16-team UPL table with 30 points (3 less than leaders BUL with 33) will return to league action on 7th February with an away trip to struggling Arua Hill.

The Venoms are however not resting as they’ve spent the past two days in the gym and on the field as they look upto a proper start to their Stanbic Uganda Cup title-defence in the round of 64 against Buganda region third division side, Lugazi Stars FC.

BACKGROUND

Waiswa left Vipers to join SuperSport United in South Africa as a UPL champion with Vipers in the 2017/18 campaign.

In that memorable season, Waiswa was also recognized as the Best Male Footballer in Uganda at the 2018 FUFA Awards.

Waiswa spent three seasons at SuperSport before returning to Uganda in June 2022, to KCCA FC where has been until returning to Kitende as Vipers’ first signing of the January transfer window, and also Livingstone Mbabazi’s first-ever acquisition as the Venoms head coach.
