Nam Blazers secured a convincing 89-67 win against the Kampala Rockets in a thrilling 2024 NBL match at the YMCA Court on Sunday.
The victory showcased the Blazers’ prowess as serious contenders in the 2024 National Basketball League.
The Blazers, benefiting from a two-week rest, wasted no time asserting their dominance, taking an early lead of 17-11.
They continued to dominate, extending their advantage to a significant 17-point margin by halftime.
Despite a valiant effort from the Kampala Rockets to narrow the gap to 10 points heading into the final quarter, the Blazers remained composed, ultimately sealing their well-deserved victory with a commanding 22-point lead.
Key player Peter Cheng delivered an outstanding performance, shooting 9-for-18 from the field and claiming the game high with 24 points.
Supported by teammates Innocent Ochera (23), Joseph Chuma (19), and Michael Makiadi (11), who all reached double digits in scoring, the Blazers showcased their depth and versatility on the court.
For the Kampala Rockets, Francis ‘Odom’ Kasinde led the charge with 20 points, with John Dombo and Ola Simon contributing 17 and 11 points respectively, in a commendable effort despite the loss.
The Blazers’ dominance extended beyond scoring, as they out-rebounded their opponents 43-33, and showcased sharp shooting, hitting an impressive 50% from beyond the arc.
This victory marks the Nam Blazers’ third win in four games, following earlier triumphs against the KIU Titans and KCCA Panthers. Their only setback came in a surprising defeat against Our Saviour, who secured a 75-65 win.
In contrast, the Kampala Rockets continue to struggle, suffering their fourth defeat in five games, with their sole victory coming against the JKL Dolphins.
