BAL: City Oilers Fail Bangui Test

Saturday, April 20
Bangui (Central Africa Rep) 101-88 City Oilers (Uganda)

City Oilers suffered their second defeat, falling 88-101 to Bangui SC in their second game at the ongoing Basketball Africa League in the Nile Conference group in Cairo, Egypt.

Despite leading the first quarter 26-23, the Oilers lacked the endurance when the Central African Republic side found their rhythm.

Khaman Maluach scored a double-double of 29 points and 12 rebounds, with Dane Miller and Muhammad Bashir adding 13 and 12 points respectively, but their efforts were in vain.

Thierry Darian, with 22 points and 10 rebounds, led Bangui, with Fula Nganga and Evans Ganapamo adding 19 points each.

Although Oilers won the rebounding battle 37-31, it wasn’t enough.

This marks the second defeat for Oilers, who lost to Ahly (Egypt) 99-76 in their opener on Friday. They will seek redemption when they face Al Ahly Benghazi (Libya) on Monday.

This win is the first for Bangui, who lost to Al Ahly Benghazi 93-71 on Friday.

As in the opener against Al Ahly, Fayed Baale, Allawi Ssenkubuge, and Ivan Muhwezi remained unused substitutes.

Following each team facing each other twice, the top two from the four-team group will qualify for the BAL playoffs in Kigali, Rwanda.

Additionally, the top two best third-placed teams across the three conferences (Nile, Kalahari, and Sahara) will also qualify for the playoffs.
