Girls Schools Cricket Week: Olila On Course

Day two of the Girls Schools’ Cricket Week ended with defending Champions Olila High School taking full control of their Group.

The three-time winners through Victoria Pearls stars Lorna Anyait (71) and Malisa Ariokot (60 not) pummeled Good Heart by 183 runs to remain top of Group A and on course for a semifinal place.

The side is enjoying it’s start, but that can not be said of their rivals Jinja SS who had to dig deep to edge Masaka SS on Monday.

Jinja SS who have won this trophy a record eight times are looking to reclaim supremacy, but they opened the competition with a 5 wicket loss to the champions. They were however, able to follow that loss with a narrow 7-run win over Masaka SS.

The competition in Group A is that you can not afford to lose a game if the intentions are to make the final Four. St. Johns and Iganaga SS are aware of this and they’ve both won their opening two games.

In Group B, last year’s losing finalists Light SS are unbeaten with 6 points. The side remain the only undefeated team in the Group and as such lead the group standings.

Kilembe SS was in the wrong side of Light SS’ 116 run victory on Monday. Namesakes Patricia Timong and Patricia Apolot scored 32 and 38 respectively in that win. The former also added three wickets to her name in that game.

On the other side of the table, St. James and Good Heart are still winless . The two sides have lost all their opening three games in Group A.

In Group A, three teams are winless. Ndejje, Kilembe and inaugural winners Gayaza High have all been on the receiving end.

On the statistical table, St. John’s Giringish Nabulime currently leads the batting chart with 80 runs from two games. Nabulime scored a half century of 56 against St. James to take her tally to that figure.

Bowling wise, Ndejje SS’ Blessing Apio together with Ariokot top the charts each with six wickets.

Action continues on Tuesday in the various grounds in Soroti where the tournament is being held.
