Jinja SS’ hopes of clinching a semifinal berth at the ongoing Girls School’s Cricket Week are in Jeopardy after their derby defeat to Iganga SS on Wednesday.

The eight-time champions had cancelled their opening day loss to defending champions Olila High with two back to back wins against Masaka SS and GoodHeart SS on Tuesday, but they were made to suffer a second defeat in form of an 8 wicket loss at the hands of their Nile region rivals.

The record winners bounced back with a 47-run win in the afternoon against St. John’s SS, Mukono-a victory that elevated them to third, but with the latter second with a superior net run rate and a game in hand, and with Olila outright Group A winners, Jinja SS risk going trophy less for the fourth time running.

Like in Group A, Group B’s winner is all, but known. The group is led by last year’s losing finalists Light SS who have won all their group games.

They are trailed by St. Mary’s SS, Madera who have eight points from four games. Like the leaders, Madera haven’t lost a game, and it appears they could clinch the final semifinal spot from this group.

Match day four witnessed some outstanding performances! Against Masaka SS in the morning, Olila’s Malisa Ariokot notched four wickets as her side beat Yusuf Odoyo’s team by 10 wickets.

Rashida Tikabula also turned up with four wickets in the afternoon as Jinja SS beat St. John’s.

Notable mentions go to Gayaza High School’s Hannah Mbabazi, Kilembe SS captain Jolly Ithungu, St. James’ Katrina Lanyero, Ndejje’s Gloria Amaite, Jinja SS’ Tahia Nassuna who each picked three wickets in their respective games on Wednesday.

The games will continue on Thursday at various grounds in Soroti where the tournament is being held. The group games are set to end on Friday.
