Uganda Cricket Association Finally Cancels 2020 Season

Cricket ruling body in the Country (UCA), has finally cancelled the 2020 season due to Covid19 pandemic.

The Association had earlier persisted that they will return to play before the year ends but with the ban on public gatherings yet to be lifted, the decision was inevitable.

The activities cancelled include the 50 Over Men’s National League, 50 Overs Women’s National League and Schools’ Cricket Week (both Boys and Girls).

“It was a very difficult decision to make but the best under the current circumstances” CEO Martin Ondeko has said in a statement.

“We have run our permutations and will not be able to complete the scheduled leagues having in mind the time left in the year.”

According to the statement from UCA, it has been confirmed that there will be no relegation or promotion for this year.

“The team placements will remain as at the conclusion of the 2019 cricket season,” UCA has stated.

The Association is planning to organise short format tournaments to engage players and fans before the year ends if time and conditions allow.

“We urge all players and teams to continue observing the Ministry of Health guidelines to ensure that we are all healthy when we return to play,” the association has added.
