Uganda Cranes and Kyetume FC defender Mustafa Mujuzi says that his side has a chance of reaching the knockout stage for the first time.

The Cranes have never progressed past the groups in their four appearances at CHAN.

Mujuzi drives his confidence from the team’s impressive display at the concluded Pre-Chan mini tournament.

Uganda beat Zambia and Niger after picking a vital drawn against Cameroon in a game they were a man down, to finish top.

“We thank God who has enabled us to put into action whatever we have been given to see that we have topped the tournament,” Mujuzi said after the Niger win.

“With the points we managed to get, it will push us more to prepare very well for CHAN competition.

“We are ready enough to display what we have been taught by our coaches into action come our first game which is against Rwanda.

“These friendlies have helped us players to understand each other and the condition down in Cameroon.”

Mujuzi added: “We are ready to go past the group stages.”

The tournament kick start on January 16, with the opener played between hosts Cameroon and Zimbabwe.

The Uganda Cranes will have their first game on January 18, against Rwanda before playing Togo and Morocco to finish their pool C matches.
