A1 Challenge will play in Lower division next season after relegation from Tusker-Lite sponsored National Basketball League.

A1 suffered a 34-69 loss to UCU Lady Canons on Sunday at YMCA to finish the regular season second from bottom of the 10-team log.

The result means that A1 Challenge joins Nkumba Lady Marines who were relegated a bit earlier.

A1 go down on the expense of Nabisunsa Girls who finish level with the same record 3-15, but the School team edge A1 on head-to-head.

Coming into Sunday’s tie, A1 needed nothing but a win to leapfrog Nabisunsa and survive relegation.

And in UCU, struggling A1 was up against an uphill task to dislodge a Nicholas Natuhereza side.

But A1 Challenge never made a good account of themselves in a game they scored only three points in a whole third quarter after they trailed by 16 points at halftime.

They were out-rebounded 58-31, turned over the ball 37 times and fetched just eight points from the bench.

Tracy Namugosa scored 19 points, Rose Akon and Agatha Kamwanda scored 16 and 14 points respectively.

Sandra Ayikoru had 11 points and she was the only A1 Challenge player to score in double figures.
