Ndejje SS ended day two of the National Girls Schools Cricket Week on top of Group A following their six wicket win over Mt. Rwenzori Girls on Monday.
Esther Namutebj was the star of her school as she picked four wickets in Rwenzori’s innings. She was closely followed by Dorah Ninsiima who picked 3.
There was nothing to write home about their batting as no player went beyond nine runs. Their coach Shama Mukaaya however, believes their strength lies in batting and as they get set to face defending champions and tournament favourites Olila High tomorrow, Mukaaya says it is what will get them past the Soroti giants.
“Our batting unit hasn’t showcased what they can do so far, I think because of our opponents. We have been made to chase low scores,” Mukaya said.
“If we win the toss tomorrow against Olila, we are batting. Olila have very good and experienced players, but I believe my girls can contain them. Our batting especially is our strength.”
Like Ndejje, Olila have won both their opening games, but sit second in their group due to a lower net run rate. The side were eight wicket winners over their rivals Light SS.
In Group B, Jinja SS is still unmatched. The count for them is three wins out of three with their latest coming against Kilembe SS who they beat by three wickets.
“So far so good, the girls are executing our game plan, however, a few things we need to work on,” Habib Mugalula, head coach Jinja SS noted.
“Our batting is on point so is our slow bowling. But we need to work on our fielding. We’ve come out looking shambolic, dropping easy catches.
“We also need to work on our fast bowling. We gave out many extras especially in our first game.”
Jinja SS are the record winners of this tournament. They return to action tomorrow against Lords Meade.
