Onduparaka forward James Jarieko missed from the spot as Jinja Progressive Academy (JIPRA) were held to a goalless draw by Masaka-based school Africa With Love at Bukwali Playground.

This was a Group G game played on Thursday at the ongoing USSSA Boys football tournament in Fort Portal.

JIPRA were the better side from the word go and were awarded a penalty after Richard Okello was brought down in the forbidden area just after seven minutes.

But Jarieko hit it straight into the Keeper’s hands to waste his side’s chance of taking a lead.

JIPRA continued pressing and created a couple of opportunities but failed to break down a resilient opponent.

Dauda Ssebugenyi, coach of Africa with Love School, commented after the game: “They (JIPRA) are a strong team and one of the tournament favourites, so a draw is a good result on our side given that we are making our debut here in the Nationals.”

“The boys were determined and played as a team. They never treated JIPRA with respect and I am happy that we managed to leave with a point.”

The draw leaves both sides with four points each in Group G.

JIPRA beat St Juliana 5-3 while Africa with Love edged Wisdon High 2-1 in their respective openers.

Joseph Kizza and Jimmy Kalema’s goals were not enough as Buddo were held to a 2-2 draw by Dynamic SS in one of the thrilling games played on Thursday.

•Buddo SS 2-2 Dynamic SS
