Eagles Crowned Central Region 7s Champions

In the URU Central regional 7s, Kitante Eagles emerged as the undisputed overall champions of the 2023 Rugby campaign.

They clinched two circuits with sheer dominance—one against the Jaguars in the final of the first circuit on 26th July which they won 24-00, and the other against Sailors in the recently concluded final circuit on 16th July at the Graveyard in Makerere, securing it by 19-5.

With these victories, Edmond Tumusiime’s charges found themselves top of the series log with the highest points and hence securing themselves the overall price on the final day.

Their journey to the top of the series was faced with one major setback. In the second circuit held at MUBS, the Kitante based side faced a determined BOKs side in the semifinal and fell short in a hard-fought match.

BOKs sent them packing and they could only settle for third place after defeating sailors in the third place play off.

Even with this shock, they still maintained their spot at the top of the series’ log going into the final circuit, and therefore putting themselves as the number one contenders of the overall price.

Regrouping and summoning their fighting spirit, the Eagles charged into the third and final circuit at Makerere with an indomitable will.

With their exploits, they were able to earn themselves a spot in the playoffs to qualify for the Nile Special 7s as a core side in the 2024 season.

This is yet another trophy in their cabinet this year, and they have built on their initial triumphs as Central XVs league winners and URU championship winners.

Following their qualification and promotion to the Nile Special Rugby Premiership, the Eagles are set to see themselves qualify as a core side in the Nile Special 7s—the biggest 7s campaign in Uganda’s rugby.
