UCA National League: Karashani Lifts Wanderers in Opener

Davis Karashani bagged the player of the Match award as Wanderers got the National Men’s 50 Overs League to a perfect start with a 150-run win over Nyakasura on Saturday.

Wanderers finished the T20 League- that ended last weekend- placed 4th in the table standings, but the former Cricket Cranes captain ensured his side bowled off the longer version with a resounding victory.

Karashani flaunted his early days cricket, beating the Nyakasura boys on both fronts. The 37-year-old picked up two wickets during the opponent’s chase, but the highlight of the day was his knock of 110 that came off 84 balls. It was his second century for Wanderers, and one that put the score far beyond Nyakasura’s reach.

Nyakasura were double header victors of this fixture in the T20 League! They had hoped to do a third one on the purple boys, and their game seemed to go on plan.

The boys from the Fort Portal had Wanderers (who had imported three Rwandan nationals including Didier Ndikwibimana, Wilson Niyitanga and Martin Akayezu into the team) count three wickets down inside the eleventh Over, however, their impressive Powerplay was undermined by Karashani’s display.

And during Nyakasura’s innings, Karashani went for big wickets; first dismissing Amos Ahura, Nyakasura’s top scorer with 55 and then completing the catch that sent Isaac Ategeka (45) back to the dugout.

The spinner also caught Ivan Thawitamwira and bowled Fortunate Alijuna . Ivan Kakande, Geoffrey Seguya, Tembo Zubair and Akayezu each also had two wickets to their backs.

Akayezu and Kakande also came in handy with the bat, with the former getting 26 runs and the latter 30. Abu Seguya (69), Niyitanga (28) and Hiteshi Prajabti (38) were the other double digits scorers.

The league continues on Sunday with two fixtures on the card. The T20 Champions Aziz Damani will face off against their sister side Aziz Damani Development at the Lugogo Cricket Oval while Africa Cricket Club will take on Avengers at the green Oval in Entebbe.
