Vipers returned to the winning column with a well-deserved 2-0 victory over Bright Stars on match-day five at Kavumba.

In the second half, Karim Watambala and Bright Anukani scored the decisive goals, securing the win for the defending champions.

This victory follows two consecutive draws against Mbarara City and SC Villa, marking a return to form for the Venoms who now move to 11 points.

The first half saw fewer noteworthy events, with Watambala coming close with a free-kick that hit the post after a save attempt by Bright Stars’ goalkeeper, Derrick Were.

Watambala then broke the deadlock five minutes into the second half, with his shot taking a slight deflection off Bright Stars’ captain, Andy Kyambadde.

Vipers quickly extended their lead four minutes later, as Bright Anukani chested in a delivery from Lumala Abdu after a beautifully executed build-up play.

Vipers had a chance for a third goal when Yunus Sentamu set up substitute Muhammad Ekbad in the area, but the Mauritanian forward blazed over a goalkeeper-to-beat opportunity.

Bright Stars had their best attempt on goal in the closing stages when Sam Ssenyonjo’s curler was saved by Vipers’ goalkeeper, Jack Komakech.

This win is significant for Vipers, as they lost four points to Bright Stars in the previous season, including a 1-0 defeat at this venue due to Emmanuel Loki’s goal.

On the other hand, Bright Stars continue to struggle, remaining winless in five matches.
